Ryan Staub’s breakout performance has captured the Buffs fanbase and drawn attention across college football. On Coach Prime’s Playbook with Romi Bean, both Staub and Deion Sanders reflected on what made the moment possible.

Sanders said the quarterback’s preparation never wavered despite being buried on the depth chart. “Staub attacks every day in practice, like he’s preparing for the game…When I tell you, no murmuring, no bickering, no jealousy when other guys are up, Staub is right there. He’s supporting him and he’s everything you want in a football player. He really is. And I’m excited that he got an opportunity.”

Staub admitted the path wasn’t easy. “Obviously, I was the third string going through camp and third string starting the season, and just my whole goal every day was to make sure I was ready. You know, get the reps after practice. I wasn’t getting them during practice. Keep my mind ready and just keep my arm and everything just ready so that if I got my shot, I was ready to go.”

When asked about staying patient, he explained, “It’s hard. I’ve got experience in this game now. It’s my third year and I was the backup to Shedeur for a couple of years. And so I know what it’s like to prepare and to be ready, especially at the highest level, like he did every single week.”

Staub felt the energy when his number was called. “I just remember talking with my dad the night before the game, and I said, if I go in, I just want to make sure I have a presence out there. I want the stadium and the team to feel a different energy.”

Looking ahead, his mindset hasn’t changed. “Same mentality. We’re preparing hard. It’s the first game of conference play. And yeah, I’m preparing as much as I can. You know if I get that shot, we’re going to be rolling.”

As he prepares to start tonight in Houston, Staub knows he’ll be supported not only by his teammates, but by family in the stands. “My whole mom’s side will be out there. My grandma might even make a little visit, which will be cool. So yeah, it’ll mean a lot to me and it’ll be a nice homecoming. But we’re focused on the task at hand.”
