Colorado’s first touchdown of the 2025 season came from one of its newest faces. Running back DeKalon Taylor, a spring transfer from Incarnate Word, caught an 8-yard pass from Kaidon Salter for the Buffaloes’ opening score against Georgia Tech.

For Taylor, nicknamed “TrackHawk” because of his speed, the play was a showcase of the traits he had described to reporters during camp. “If you blink, you might miss it,” Taylor said when asked to sum up his game.

Taylor’s decision to come to Boulder was shaped as much by the program’s culture as by the chance to play in the Pac-12. “I wanted to be surrounded by guys that weren’t going to only build me up on the field but off the field and help me develop as a man,” he said.

Now working under Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk, Taylor has embraced a broader role in the offense. “Learning from a coach that did both, caught a lot of passes, had a lot of rushing yards was actually a great thing for me. It helps me understand the offense as a whole, not just as a running back…Even if it’s not me, my teammates winning, we’re all winners,” Taylor explained.”

One game into his Colorado career, DeKalon Taylor has already shown exactly why he was a priority for the Buffaloes. His speed, versatility, and a team-first mentality makes him a valuable asset on and off the field. His first touchdown in black and gold may be remembered as the spark that ignited the season.
