Deion Sanders confirms Julian Lewis will play against Delaware image

Deion Sanders didn’t leave room for doubt when asked about freshman quarterback Julian Lewis’ status heading into Saturday’s matchup with Delaware.

“Yeah, he’s playing. He’s playing this week for sure,” Sanders said. “I know when I’m going to see him. You just don’t know when you’re going to see him. I know when we’re gonna see him.”

A follow-up question pushed on whether Lewis could start, and Sanders quickly shut that down. “Can we take one thing at a time? I just told you he was playing. Now you saying he’s starting. Come on, dog. Work with me, baby. You know, just work with me. Work with me. He’s playing.”

For Sanders, it’s not just about getting Lewis on the field,  it’s about doing it at the right time. “You got to understand, I love that kid, man. I really do. And I want him to be extremely successful. Sometimes you don’t want to rush things. Sometimes you don’t want to delay things. You want to make sure the timing is right.”

He admitted last week wasn’t the right moment. “I don’t think the time was appropriate last week. I really don’t. [Taking into consideration] the way the game is flowing, the rhythm of the game,” Sanders said. “But this week I made up my mind already…qhe’s going to play. So I don’t give a darn about the flow or nothing. He’s playing.”

Colorado hosts Delaware on Saturday at Folsom Field. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET.
