Colorado's live buffalo mascot Ralphie VII has already become a fan favorite in Boulder. The 1-year-old, 700-pound fur missile had no problem jetting out of the corral and around Folsom Field. When it came to her handlers coming up with a new nickname, they had to reach outside the box.

Ralphie took on the name "Brandy" from the No. 1 song "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" by Looking Glass. Evidently, she enjoys the tune and reacts strongly to the lyrics.

Ralphie VII made her first appearance on Sept. 20 against Wyoming. She took the place of 'Ember' or Ralphie VI, who retired after not wanting to participate in the run around Folsom.

As a tradition, Ralphie receives her nickname after the first run. The names of Ralphies before Brandy include Moonshine (Ralphie II), Tequila (Ralphie III), Rowdy (Ralphie IV), Blackout (Ralphie V), and Ember (Ralphie VI).

In 1957, Mr. Chips became the first named bison affiliated with the program but never ran and was staged on the sideline during games. It wasn't until 1967 when the original Ralphie was introduced and ran the loop across the field.
