Colorado running back Simeon Price met with the media this week and was quick to downplay his early performances. “I would say they were solid,” he said. “I am always tough on myself, so a lot of areas I can improve in. It is a deep running back room, so anytime you get in there, you have to take advantage of your opportunities.”
On Friday night in Houston, Price did exactly that. In the second quarter he burst through the defense for a 38 yard touchdown run, the first of his college career, capping a 10 play, 93 yard drive that pulled Colorado within 13 to 7.
The moment carried weight because of the road he traveled to get there. Twice Price lingered in the transfer portal for six months, unsure if football was in his future. “I was at home training, thinking I was never going to be able to play football again,” he recalled. “I was in a dark place, but God pulled me out of that pit. I will forever talk about how Christ is the reason I am here and he is my foundation.”

Now the fifth year back embraces every chance. “I wake up every morning and the first thing I do is thank the Lord for this opportunity,” he said. “These mountains are beautiful out here. I am being coached by Hall of Famers. I do not take anything for granted.”
Running backs coach Marshall Faulk has become a guiding presence. “Every time we get in the meeting room, it is like gold nuggets. He does not just want us to be great football players, he wants us to be great young men.”
Head coach Deion Sanders made it clear that Price’s perseverance is what makes him so valuable to the program. “First of all, he deserves it,” Sanders said. “Second of all, you talk about a great kid, a character kid, a kid that loves this game. Loves everything that comes with it. The education, academics, the leadership that we have in the building. Phenomenal human being, man. I am proud to have him a part of this team.”
Price knows the room is loaded with talent, but he sees it as a strength. “We are not selfish. We all want to see each other succeed,” he said. “Stay ready so you do not have to get ready.”
