Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is done in Tuscaloosa after one season as the starter.

Simpson, who is projected to be among the first quarterbacks selected in the upcoming NFL draft, announced Wednesday that he is passing up his senior year and turning pro.

In an Instagram post featuring a narrated video, Simpson reflected on his lone season atop the depth chart. “Grateful for every single second,” Simpson said. “Blessed beyond measure to be able to chase my dreams. Time to roll. Roll Tide.”

Simpson informed Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb of his decision, according to ESPN. He added in the video that former coach Nick Saban was right when he said the journey would be worth it.

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. Ranked Simpson as the draft’s third-best quarterback, behind Fernando Mendoza and Dante Moore.

Simpson completed 64.5% of his passes for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions in 2025, leading No. 9 Alabama to an 11-4 record. After a hot start that fueled Heisman Trophy buzz, he struggled late as injuries and a lack of a running game put more pressure on his arm.

Simpson suffered a cracked rib in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal loss to Indiana Hoosiers at the Rose Bowl. However, with first-round evaluations and NFL interest firm, Simpson decided his time at Alabama was complete without his senior season.
