UConn put on a stunning display of dominance Friday night, setting a program record with a 47-point halftime lead en route to a 110-47 rout of UMass Lowell at PeoplesBank Arena.
Tarris Reed Jr. Had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds in his season debut, while Silas Demary Jr. Added 16 points and seven assists for the No. 4 Huskies.
The preseason All-Big East first-team pick returned from a hamstring injury that sidelined him in the opener and notched his fifth career 20-point, 10-rebound game.
Seven players scored in double figures as UConn extended its Hartford winning streak to 19 games and topped 100 points for the first time since 2022.
Malachi Smith and Solo Ball chipped in 14 points each for the Huskies, who led 64-17 at halftime, surpassing the previous record halftime margin of 40 points set against Wagner in 1998, according to CT Insider David Borges.
UConn’s defense was stifling, holding the River Hawks (1-1) scoreless from the field for the first 13 minutes. UMass Lowell missed its first 17 field-goal attempts and didn’t score a basket until Austin Green’s jumper with 6:20 left in the half.
Jared Frey led UMass Lowell with 12 points, and Xavier Spencer added 11.
Alex Karaban briefly exited after a hard fall on a dunk attempt but returned before halftime as the Huskies cruised to another early-season victory.
