On Monday, forward Alex Karaban was named Big East Player of the Week after a 2-0 record over the last seven days for the UConn Huskies.
Karaban put together an all-around stat line with an average of 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks. The redshirt senior delivered going 15-of-22 (68.2 percent) shooting, highlighted by 6-for-9 makes from three-point range.
In an 86-84 win over the BYU Cougars on Nov. 15, Karaban finished with 21 points, on 8-of-11 from the field and 4-of-4 from long range. Karaban produced another 20-point outing in an 89-62 win over Columbia on Nov. 10.
Other Big East honors:
Villanova guard Acaden Lewis was named Big East Freshmen of the Week after an average of 11.5 points, 7.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds.
In an 2-0 week for the Wildcats, Lewis finished with a season-high 19 points, to go along with six assists and four rebounds in an 87-77 win over the Duquesne Dukes on Nov. 15. In the previous outing on Nov. 10, Lewis dished out a season-high eight assists in a 94-60 win over the Sacred Heart Pioneers.
Lewis stands second in the Big East and ninth nationally among freshman with an average of 5.3 assists per game.
Marquette forward Chase Ross and Georgetown guard KJ Lewis highlighted this week’s Big East Honor Roll recipients.
The senior dazzled for Marquette with an average of 23.5 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals. Ross finished with a career-high 31 points, on 10-of-19 from the field in an 89-82 loss to the Maryland Terrapins on Nov. 15.
Lewis has played a key role in Georgetown’s 4-0 start – its best since the 2017-18 season with an average of 23.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.5 assists. The junior carried the Hoyas with a career-high 26 points, to go along with five steals and four rebounds in a 79-74 win over the Clemson Tigers on Nov. 15.
