Kiyan Anthony understands a lot of what Bronny James has been through.
Kiyan, the son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, has watched from afar as LeBron's son gets accused of being the beneficiary of nepotism and gets talked down on simply because he isn't his father.
It's something Kiyan has already dealt with, too, and will deal with even more this upcoming basketball season when he's a freshman for the same Syracuse program that his dad led to a national championship as a one-and-done frosh.
“It’s a new generation, two totally different people, even though that might be your kid,” Kiyan said on his dad's podcast, 7 PM in Brooklyn. “Bronny [James], I kind of felt bad for him… That’s my guy. He doesn’t speak a lot, he’s not gonna go on the internet and say what he’s gotta say… You’re on social media, you can’t even scroll twice without seeing a post with your name on it… At the end of the day, he’s nice… People trying to say he’s not good… I think he’s really nice and I think he really has a chance to prosper in the NBA.”
On the one hand, these young basketball players have incredible role models.
On the other hands, they have massive shadows to try and escape and live up to.
Bronny and Kiyan have done well for themselves, on their own merits, already. And they've still got plenty of time to continue to grow.
