The status of Ole Miss’ home men’s basketball game against No. 18 Vanderbilt remains unclear after the university announced it will close campus through Sunday because of severe winter weather impacts in Oxford, Mississippi.
The SEC matchup is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday and falls within the campus shutdown window. As of Wednesday afternoon, neither Ole Miss nor the SEC had announced whether the game will be postponed, relocated or rescheduled.
“The University of Mississippi will be closed through Sunday, Feb. 8, due to the extreme impact and ongoing recovery efforts from the recent ice storm and severe winter weather,” the university said in an alert posted to its official social media accounts. The closure includes all classes, events and activities.
The images on social media show the widespread destruction around Oxford. Numerous downed trees and power lines, power outages and hazardous road conditions as reasons for the decision.
Ole Miss athletics hasn't issued an update about the game as of 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday night. Due to inclement weather, the Tennessee at Ole Miss women’s basketball game scheduled for Monday, January 26, was postponed. The game will be rescheduled for a date to be determined.
