This is MSU head coach Tom Izzo's 25th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, making him the first in history to lead a team this far. The previous leader was Mike Kryzewski at Duke with 24 in a row. They enter the East Region as a 7-seed with a 19-12 overall record, 11-8 Big Ten record.

This is USC's second bid to the tournament in three years. They've only been invited 20 times, four of those times under head coach Andy Enfield, and have never made it past the Elite Eight. This is their second three-year streak of invitations, the previous being between 2007-2009. They enter the East Region as a 10-seed with a 22-10 overall record, 14-6 Pac-12 record.
They fell in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals 77-72 to Arizona State on Thursday, March 9.
