Neoklis Avdalas scored 33 points as Virginia Tech defeated Providence 107-101 in overtime at the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off on Saturday night.
Avdalas, a 6-foot-9 freshman from Greece, made 13-of-23 shots overall and 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. The nice introduction that also included five rebounds and six assists.
The 19-year-old nicknamed "Neo" had an entire professional career in Greece before coming to America. He won a Greek Super Cup in 2021 before being named an All-Star two year later. Add that with two-time Best Young Player of the Year and Most Improved Player of the Year honors. Avdalas was also featured on Greece's U16 national squad and on the FIBA U20 EuroBasket team.

There's no wonder why the do-it-all freshman is catching early comparisons to Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic. Avdalas broke onto the scene at the 2025 NBA Draft combine. However, he opted to go the college route instead of trying his luck in the league right away.
Avdalas will be fun to watch this season as a preview of the NBA's next wave.
