The Louisville Cardinals have one of the best freshmen in the country, Mikel Brown Jr.
But the talented point guard has missed time lately with an injury.
Rumors have suggested that Brown may have gotten injured in the weight room, but he wanted to set the record straight on that.
On Monday night, Brown posted this message on X:
"Just to set the record straight, my back injury DID NOT happen in the weight room. This situation is something that happened before the Memphis game and I took some hard falls in the Memphis game that made it worse. Coach Eli is my guy, he hasn’t and never will do anything to put my health at risk. He has been the main person working with me everyday to get back on the court as soon as possible! I had to let everyone know the truth. I will be back soon."
Cardinals fans will particularly appreciate the final line, that Brown plans to be back soon.
Brown, as he alludes to, last played on Dec. 13 against Memphis, when he went 25 minutes in a 26-point victory.
All told, Brown has played 10 games this season. He's averaging 16.6 points, 5.1 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game so far in his college career.
If Brown can get healthy and prove his level of play is continuing to get better, he can be an NBA Draft lottery pick as a one-and-done.
If the recovery takes a while, it could force Brown to make a tougher choice about his NBA future.
For now, Brown just wants people to know he appreciates Louisville's training staff, and that he plans to return to the court sooner rather than later.
