The Syracuse Orange got off to a great start to the season in their opener against Binghamton, scoring the first 10 points.
But then things quickly took a turn that SU couldn't afford. J.J. Starling got injured.
The star senior guard drove and had his foot land awkwardly on a Binghamton defender's foot.
Starling immediately seized up a bit and passed the ball off, and he had to leave the game.
J.J. Starling injury update
The ACC Network Extra broadcast showed Starling limping to the Syracuse locker room.
He was accompanied by multiple trainers and had a towel over his head.
Starling was walking under his own power, but he had a clear limp.
A little while later, Starling returned to the bench in sweats with a large wrap or ice bag appearing to be packed under the sweatpants.
From nearby Baldwinsville, Starling started his college career at Notre Dame before coming back home to play for Syracuse.
A season ago, Starling averaged 17.8 points per game. He's expected to be a leader for the Orange this season.
They may be careful early in the season, especially in a game they should have no problem in against Binghamton.
But as the year goes on, SU will need Starling out there to be the best version of themselves.
