Former phenom Mikey Williams drops career-high points in highlight performance for Sacramento State image

Mikey Williams, for the first time in a long time, looked like Mikey Williams.

The former 4-star recruit and viral social media star put up a career-best night for Sacramento State on Tuesday in a narrow loss to UC-Santa Barbara.

The final stats for Williams:

  • 30 points
  • 10-16 FG
  • 4-7 3FG
  • 5 assists

Williams originally committed to Memphis out of high school, but he never played for the Tigers. Gun charges led to him entering the transfer portal. He eventually pled guilty to one misdemeanor.

The 6-foot-3 Williams ended up at UCF, and in 2024-25, he averaged 5.1 points per game.

Williams transferred after last season and came to Sacramento State, which is coached by Mike Bibby.

It's not where most expected Williams to end up. With the caveat of it being an early call, Williams was once ranked the No. 1 player in his class when he was in eighth grade.

He had more than three million followers on Instagram before he was a junior in high school.

Now he's hooping at Sacramento State, a D-I school but well off the beaten path.
