Trae Young reveals new number after Wizards trade image

The Washington Wizards made the biggest move of the 2025-26 season to date, trading for four-time All-Star Trae Young.

After being selected fifth overall in 2018, Young spent nearly eight seasons with the Atlanta Hawks before being traded after making 10 appearances for Atlanta this year.

Young was a large part of Atlanta's recent success, making an Eastern Conference Finals appearance in the 2020-21 season.

As a member of the Hawks, Young averaged 25.2 points, 9.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds. He made one All-NBA team and was the 2024-25 assists champion.

That said, his time in Atlanta is now over, with C.J. McCollum and Corey Kispert leaving Washington as part of the deal.

Optimistic for a fresh start, Young reflected on his time in Atlanta on Friday, posting thoughts on his exit and excitement for what is to come with the Wizards.

With Young on the move to Washington, he's officially changed his number from his previous No. 11. In a post on social media, Young revealed his new threads, sporting a brand new number. Young has decided to wear No. 3 as a member of the Wizards, perhaps foreshadowing his signature long-range shooting.

Currently sidelined with a quad injury, it's uncertain when Young will debut for the Wizards. With Washington ranked 14th in the Eastern Conference, Young won't be rushed to return as the Wizards are unlikely to make the playoffs.

That said, optimism is high for Washington fans, as Trae Young offers an opportunity for the franchise to build something new.
