The Toronto Raptors made a bunch of cuts in the last week to get their roster trimmed down to its regular season size.

One of those cuts is coming back, though, on a two-way contract.

That'd be A.J. Lawson, a native of Toronto.

The NBA's transaction log Saturday night showed that Lawson has officially signed a two-way deal.

Lawson is a 25-year old who has played parts of three seasons in the NBA already.

He has already played 26 games for the Raptors, which came at the tail end of last season. In those outings, Lawson averaged 9.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

Before that, Lawson had made NBA appearances for the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves.

This was a logical move for the Raptors, who had a two-way contract still open.

They decided to use it on Lawson, a player they're familiar with who was reliable when called upon down the stretch last season.

Toronto is hoping to put together a better 2025-26 campaign, and the Raptors have the talent to do so. Moves around the margins like this might feel unimportant, but there'll be a stretch of games where Lawson proves important, and if he can deliver, it'll go a long way toward the success of the overall season and the Raptors' chances of making the playoffs.
