When will Victor Wembanyama return? Latest injury news, timeline on Spurs star's calf strain image

Perhaps the biggest conversation in San Antonio — let alone the entire state of Texas — has been the news surrounding Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama. After suffering a calf strain on Friday, November 14th against the Golden State Warriors, Wemby was initially given a 2–3 week timeline, potentially jeopardizing the franchise’s early-season momentum.

Wembanyama has been spotted multiple times appearing completely at ease, whether walking freely without crutches or casually dribbling a basketball on the sidelines during practice. Naturally, fans are eager to know the same thing: when will their star player return?

When will Victor Wembanyama return?

As it stands, Wembanyama has not traveled with the team on their four-game road trip and will be sidelined for at least the next three contests. Currently, there is no concrete timeline for his return to the court.

San Antonio opened the road trip on Sunday night with a loss to the Phoenix Suns. The remaining three matchups stretch through November 30th, meaning Wembanyama’s earliest chance to suit up would be December 2nd against the Memphis Grizzlies.

While numerous athletes across the league have dealt with lower-body injuries this season, Wembanyama appears on track for a potentially quicker turnaround based on the limited footage fans have seen off the court. If the Spurs can get him back once they return to Frost Bank Center, it would shave roughly a week off his initial recovery timeline.

Surprisingly, Wembanyama’s absence hasn’t resulted in the dip many expected, with the Spurs posting a 3–1 record since his injury. De’Aaron Fox has taken command, averaging 26.5 points, 6.5 assists, and 3.3 rebounds over the team’s last four games. Although the initial plan was to pair Fox and Wemby more consistently throughout the regular season, Fox is showcasing precisely why the franchise traded for him at the 2024–25 deadline.

San Antonio’s next three games come against Western Conference contenders in the Trail Blazers, Nuggets, and Timberwolves — all teams currently sitting inside the top nine of the standings.

San Antonio enters this stretch fifth in the Western Conference at 11–5 as it continues pushing toward a return to playoff contention.
