Victor Wembanyama delivered a highlight-reel dunk of the season Friday night. The 7-foot-4 Spurs phenom posterized Draymond Green on a baseline alley-oop. Then he stood over him and started making elite-level trash talk.
A professional lip reader broke down exactly what was said between the two stars during their heated fourth-quarter exchange, and they were absolutely cold-blooded.
Lip reader unpacks tense courtside exchange between Green and Wembanyama
Professional lip reader “LegendZ” released the alleged back-and-forth clip on Saturday. The exchange went down midway through the fourth quarter at Frost Bank Center during the Warriors' 109-108 win over San Antonio.
The clip showed Green kept pushing and trash-talking Wembanyama throughout the game. But the young French player stayed calm, silently waiting for the right moment to arrive.
During a play from the baseline, the Warriors forward tried to deny Wembanyama the ball. The referee intervened to sort out their in-between tension, but Green said, "We're good."
In the third quarter, Green was called for a foul after getting blocked twice by the tall Spurs star. He yelled at the referee, “That’s a foul!” But got no expected reply. Wembanyama was having fun on the side, seeing Green's poor situation against his height.
In the fourth quarter, Green got back at Wembanyama with a clean block. After a loose-ball foul, he stared him down. The officials had a very hard time controlling their physicality throughout the game.
Until then, only an altercation remained to happen, and finally it broke out between the two rivals.
After an alley-oop slam, the 21-year-old got in Green's face immediately and taunted him, saying, "Ahhh!" Green then faced Wembanyama and yelled, "You a–-, n—---." Wembanyama fired back, saying, "On your head!" The Warriors superstar again chose to yell with violent words, saying, "You trash, n—-.”

After the game, Wemby called out Draymond for the exchange:

Two team players needed to step up to split since they were about to get physical. The 7-foot-4 Wembanyama hunched over the 6-foot-6 Green as they exchanged words. Despite the comical size difference, their temper rose every second in the hardwood.
After the game, Wembanyama explained his action, saying, "It's not trying to prove anything to anybody. It's just, at some point, somebody speaks to you a certain way, you have to respond a certain way."
Green actually respected how Wembanyama handled it. "It's good to see him show emotion. I like when guys show emotion," he said. But Green also noted some hypocrisy. He pointed out that if he yelled in someone's face and grabbed them, he'd get suspended indefinitely.
However, the Spurs lost the game by just one point. But Wembanyama won the respect of one of the league's fiercest competitors. That might matter more in the long run.
