San Antonio Spurs point guard De'Aaron Fox has clapped back on a key criticism this season.

As longtime NBA insider Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson notes, pundits have been somewhat skeptical of the 31-15 Spurs' roster construction this season, critiquing the club for a "guard-heavy" approach.
Fox, acquired ahead of the trade deadline in 2024-25, revealed how he tries to stand out among a backcourt that also includes reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, rookie No. 2 pick Dylan Castle, and prolific scorer Devin Vassell.
'Just Continue To Try To Be Me'
“For me, it’s just continue to try to be me,” Fox explained regarding his approach. “Obviously, create myself, create for others. Defensively, be a playmaker, you know, try to cause turnovers, and I think we all are able to get downhill and create for ourselves and create for others. So whenever you have guys like that, like I think it’s easy to play together.”
The 6-foot-3 Kentucky product played sparingly for the Spurs last year, appearing in just 17 contests after the deadline. Across 37 bouts this season, Fox has been averaging 20.2 points on.479/.360/.783 shooting splits, 6.0 dimes, 4.1 boards, and 1.2 swipes a night. He and Castle each have a shot at making the All-Star team this year as coaches' reserve picks.
