The San Antonio Spurs have had a lot of luck in the NBA Draft lottery in recent years, but nobody can be too upset with them.

Ultimately, the Spurs have lost games, have traded players and other assets to ensure they have high picks and other avenues, and have made the right decisions. At the end of the day, outside of the obvious pick of Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs could have made some bad picks just like every other team.

San Antonio will have the Atlanta Hawks’ first-round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, and Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report recently predicted the Spurs would go with an international prospect in Tounde Yessoufou, who is currently playing for Baylor.

“NBA teams will all buy Tounde Yessoufou's strength, athleticism and motor for picking up easy baskets, defending and hustle plays.

“He hasn't shot well from outside, and the early attempts at self-creation have exposed his lack of polish as a scorer and decision-maker. His physical traits and mentality point to a high floor. Yessoufou will have to show progress with his handle and shotmaking to sell NBA teams on a high ceiling,” he wrote

Wasserman compared him to Cam Whitmore, a youngster for the Washington Wizards

Whitmore has been viewed as somewhat polarizing during his time in the NBA, but if Yessoufou can be less worried about scoring the basketball every second like Whitmore is, there's reason to believe his style can fit in the NBA nowadays.
