Spurs get positive Victor Wembanyama sign before Grizzlies game image

For the second time this season, the San Antonio Spurs are patiently waiting for the return of their superstar big man, Victor Wembanyama.

Currently, the star center is battling a knee injury. He hasn’t been on the court since the team’s New Year’s Eve matchup against the New York Knicks.

Heading into Tuesday’s action against the Memphis Grizzlies, Wembanyama was upgraded to questionable on the injury report. On the morning of the matchup, the Spurs got a positive sign, suggesting he’s potentially on pace to play.

Wembanyama participated in the team’s morning shootaround. Just one more box to check before the Spurs tip off against the Grizzlies.

The last time Wembanyama took the court against the Knicks, he checked in for just 23 minutes. It was his third start since re-entering the lineup in early December.

Against the Knicks, Wembanyama dominated with a 10-12 shooting night, draining 31 points. He contributed a double-double with 13 rebounds and also blocked one shot on the defensive end.

The Spurs picked up a 134-132 win over the Knicks.

So far, Wembanyama has appeared in 21 of the Spurs’ 33 games this year. After a November 14 game against the Golden State Warriors, he went on a 12-game absence. When he returned on December 13, he came off the bench for six games.

This season, Wembanyama is posting averages of 24.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.9 blocks. He is shooting 52 percent from the field and 36 percent from three.

The Spurs and the Grizzlies will tip at 8 PM ET on Tuesday.
