The San Antonio Spurs announced Wednesday that they have exercised their third-year team option on guard Stephon Castle and their fourth-year option on forward-center Victor Wembanyama for the 2026–27 season.

Castle, listed at 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds, was named the 2024–25 NBA Rookie of the Year and earned a unanimous selection to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. The 19-year-old appeared in 80 games (47 starts), averaging 14.7 points, 4.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game. He led all rookies in total points, made field goals, steals and free throws.
Ahead of the season Victor Wembanyama said “I can assure you, nobody has trained like I did this summer,” “And this is my best summer so far.
Castle echoed the same confidence in the team’s identity.
“With our length and the IQ we have, we have the potential to be a great defensive team,” Castle said.
Wembanyama, standing 7-foot-4 and weighing 240 pounds, was selected as a 2025 NBA All-Star after averaging 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, a league-leading 3.8 blocks and 1.1 steals in 46 games (all starts) before his season ended early due to right shoulder deep vein thrombosis.
The 2023–24 Rookie of the Year has already made NBA history, becoming the only player to record at least 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 200 blocks and 200 three-pointers through his first two seasons.
