Everyone knows that Victor Wembanyama is the superstar and building block for the San Antonio Spurs. He is one of the most unique players in NBA history, as he is 7'5" with generational defensive ability, but he has the skill set of a wing as well.

Unfortunately, due to his size, he can be susceptible to injuries. He is hungry to keep playing games, but this could lead to him being too eager to prove himself at times. This is something that Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson wants to clean up as Wembanyama progresses through his career.

Johnson knows Wembanyama still has room for improvement

Wembanyama is in his third season, and he has been wonderful for the Spurs. He is the primary reason why they are second in the Western Conference standings at 27-11. They are only behind the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder

Even though they are second, the Spurs do have three wins against the Thunder. Wembanyama was a big part of those wins, which showed the Spurs' ceiling when it comes to competing at the highest level.

Johnson is happy that Wembanyama is playing for his team, and he is playing as hard as he can. However, this can sometimes lead to being too eager and making mistakes.

As the Spurs' head coach, Johnson would want to get past that. He understands that Wembanyama is hungry to perform, especially since he is still a young player. They can do much better if Wembanyama improves in that area of his approach to the game.

"When he was under control, he's so dynamic when he has the ball. He can dictate the tempo or the pace of the game. I think sometimes, he just gets a little sped up," Johnson said about Wembanyama's eagerness.

"I know it's hard to say because it's him, but any 21-year-old, and he's been out, not getting to play as much as he wants, so sometimes he's trying to get right through it. It's a continued growth opportunity for him."

Moving forward, the Spurs could continue to be one of the strongest teams in the league. Wembanyama is already standing out despite some of his issues. Johnson is already hard at work convincing Wembanyama to be more mindful, so they can maintain their spot in the West.

They won their most recent game against the superb Boston Celtics. Wembanya was excellent with 21 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. He is already doing it on a supposed off night, which makes it even more exciting when he puts it all together.
