Domantas Sabonis can do it all.

He's an elite passer, rebounder, and scorer. A nightly threat to record a triple double.

One team that has struggled in the Western Conference for years could be in use of his services.

The Portland Trail Blazers have seen increased success under the stewardship of head coach Chauncey Billups, but they have yet to break into the upper echelon of the Western Conference.

On a recent episode of The Zach Lowe Show, Lowe and Hollinger outlined a potential trade that could push Portland over the top.

Trail Blazers trade for Domantas Sabonis

The two NBA insiders built a framework of a deal that would send Deandre Ayton to Sacramento and Sabonis to the Trail Blazers.

Trail Blazers receive:

  • Domantas Sabonis

Kings receive:

  • Deandre Ayton
  • Matisse Thybulle
  • 2025 1st round pick
  • 2027 1st round pick

Hollinger suggested a three-team deal potentially involving the Suns, but Lowe countered with this hypothetical deal saying "there's a lot of ingredients you could throw around."

Hollinger cited the Kings' win-now roster as a reason this trade would be a bust.

"They probably see that as too much of a reset, unless they were getting Simons in it too," said Hollinger. "The Blazers need to figure out if they believe in Scoot [Henderson] enough to just make him a full-time starter."

If it were to happen, Sabonis would join a core of Anfernee Simons, Shaedon Sharpe, and Jerami Grant. That may not be a group of top 10 players, but Portland proved last season in spurts they could play at a high level.

Their best stretch was early 2025, when they went 9-1 over 10 games. The Blazers ranked second in defensively (104.9 points per 100 possessions) and it earned Billups a multi-year extension in the offseason.

Sabonis, a three-time All Star, would elevate this roster next season. Ideally, he could anchor the offense and distribute the ball to the bevy of shooters on Portland's roster. Ayton is a good rebounder, but lacks the court vision of Sabonis.

The sweetest part of this move? Domantas' father, Arvydas Sabonis, played for the Blazers from 1995-2001 and again from 2002-03.

It would be a full circle moment for the family and a huge win for Portland.

Only time will tell if the Blazers make a blockbuster move this offseason.
