Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors have enjoyed some early-season success. Kuminga is averaging 13.8 points per game and is also playing 27.7 minutes per night.
While a career high in minutes hasn't led to a career high in points, as he's averaging about two fewer points per game, he's also had some nice moments.
Despite that, Kuminga's lows have been relatively low, and given that he's shooting just 32.4% from 3-point range, he hasn't been the perfect fit in Golden State.
It was reported by the San Francisco Standard's Tim Kawakami that Golden State will be active ahead of the trade deadline.
With limited assets to make many blockbuster deals, someone like Kuminga could be available for Golden State.
When examining a potential trade for the young wing, who is still just 23 years old after a tough contract situation last offseason, he noted that the Phoenix Suns were a team with interest.
“The Warriors have a pretty good idea about the teams that like Kuminga — or at least the ones that talked to him during his restricted free agency and contacted the Warriors about a potential sign-and-trade.
“There are at least two teams that got so far as to propose packages to the Warriors: the Kings and Suns. I’ve heard that the Bucks also had interest. Hmm. More on that later, “ Kawakami stated.
Why a trade might not make sense
While a deal could make some sense, there are also other factors to consider.
If Golden State is looking to improve into a title contender, it’s tough to see an avenue in which a trade with the Suns makes a whole lot of sense.
The Suns also might like what they currently have and are content with being with the same team throughout the remainder of the season.
