The Philadelphia 76ers and restricted free agent Quentin Grimes remain at a standstill in contract negotiations, with time running out for the two sides to reach an agreement.
After being acquired by the 76ers in a trade from the Dallas Mavericks in February, Grimes impressed on an injury-riddled Sixers squad. The 25-year-old swingman appeared in 28 regular-season games with Philadelphia, averaging 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals across 33.6 minutes per game during that span.
Following the best stretch of his professional career, Grimes came into contract negotiations with some leverage. However, the Sixers also have Jared McCain and V.J. Edgecombe, so Grimes might not be as significant in the team's long-term plans.

Quentin Grimes contract offers revealed
Grimes is looking to cash in on his career-best year, though the Sixers may look to use him as a trade piece. According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, Philadelphia has two offers on the table.
“Grimes has two offers on the table, according to sources. One is the qualifying offer, which is worth one year and $8.7 million,” he wrote. “The other is a one-year balloon payment, which is designed for Grimes to waive his no-trade clause that would be attached to him accepting the qualifying offer.”
Grimes could bet on himself this season and accept his qualifying offer. While that would come with a less lucrative salary, he’d be able to play the full year with Philadelphia and enter unrestricted free agency next offseason.
The balloon payment offers him a raise, but he could be traded for the fourth time since February 2024. Jones noted there remains interest in a long-term contract, though the two sides are “far apart on that.”
Unless they ultimately choose to extend the Oct. 1 qualifying offer deadline, the Sixers and Grimes are running out of time.
