The Philadelphia 76ers are off to a solid start to the 2025-26 season with a 6-4 record. Tyrese Maxey has been on a tear to begin the season, averaging 33.2 points and 8.2 assists per game. V. J. Edgecombe has been the most exciting rookie. Quentin Grimes has picked up where he left off.

Despite all of those positives, there remain real questions about Joel Embiid's health.

In a minutes restriction, Embiid is averaging 19.7 points and 5.5 rebounds through just six games. He's been ruled out for Tuesday's game, and further developments have revealed there's more concern behind his absence.

Joel Embiid is looking for professional answers on lingering knee injury

Joel Embiid, 31, has already missed four games this season. He will miss his fifth on Tuesday when the 76ers face the Celtics.

The real concern for the franchise star is his long-term health. According to ESPN's Tim Bontemps, Embiid is experiencing knee soreness in the opposite leg that's been the problem over the last couple of years. He will get further tests from doctors over the next few days.

This news is concerning for Embiid, who has missed 110 games since the start of the 2023-24 season. It points toward something still not feeling right in his knee.

With Paul George (knee) still waiting on his season debut, the 76ers will continue to lean on Maxey, Edgecombe and the rest of the team moving forward.
