76ers reveal Joel Embiid's injury status ahead of matchup vs. Magic image

The Philadelphia 76ers have been on a roll recently, winning four of their last five games, including a 21-point victory against the Washington Wizards their last time out.

In that game, the trio of Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Paul George combined for 73 points on 9-for-20 shooting from beyond the arc.

Of the three, it was Joel Embiid that finished with a game-high 28 points to go along with seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

That said, following Wednesday's game, Embiid's status for Friday's matchup against the Orlando Magic seemed to be in jeopardy.

Embiid was added to the injured list, dealing with a knee injury.

However, according to Philadelphia 76ers insider Austin Krell, Embiid has been upgraded to probable ahead of Friday's game.

After missing time due to injury at the beginning of the year, this would be Embiid's sixth straight game for Philadelphia.

Furthermore, an appearance by Embiid tonight would mark his 19th of the season, already reaching his total of last year.

After winning an MVP in the 2021-22 season, Embiid has yet to play 40 or more games in a season. That said, when he's been back he has been effective, despite posting lower scoring numbers.

In the 2023-24 season, Embiid averaged over 34 points per game, but in the past two seasons has yet to average 24.

Either way, a large part of his scoring decline can be attributed to a new role with the team, following the rise of Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe and the signing of Paul George.

After Friday's game against the Magic, Philadelphia will travel to Toronto for back-to-back games against the Raptors beginning Sunday.
