The Philadelphia 76ers have made a major decision on the future of young combo guard Jared McCain.

Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Philadelphia brass has exercised the 76ers' third-year option on McCain, worth $4.42 million, to keep him under team control through 2026-27.
This was essentially just a formality, as McCain's excellent play while a rookie out of Duke last year — even if it was somewhat hampered by health issues — makes him well worth the 76ers' future investment.

McCain had been on the cusp of a borderline Rookie of the Year start to his career despite being selected beyond the lottery, with the No. 16 pick. Across 23 scant bouts, McCain averaged an encouraging 15.3 points while slashing.460/.383/.875, 2.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 0.7 steals per.
But his first-year campaign was cut short abruptly.
In December 2024, McCain tore the meniscus in his left knee, ending his season after just 23 games.
He underwent tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb this fall, and was ruled out till at least the start of November.
