You can watch the clip a bunch of times.

It doesn't get easier to figure out what Orlando Magic star Desmond Bane was doing.

The Magic were taking on the Hawks on Tuesday night, and Bane was defending a fastbreak against Atlanta big guy Onyeka Ogkongwu.

The first part of the play wasn't clean by any means. To stop Okongwu from scoring, Bane swipes hard down across Okongwu's arms as he attempts to go up to the basket.

But then it gets weird.

As the ball pops loose, Bane eyes it up and unleashes a volleyball spike that directs right at Okongwu's head.

There was very little time to think, so it's not clear if Bane was thinking anything at all. But it's also an entirely unnatural action. He wasn't trying to steal the ball or knock it to a teammate or anything.

Here, have a watch:

Players had to be separated a bit. Clearly, the Hawks players thought Bane's action was a bit out of line.

Given he was ejected from a key game, Bane may not face further punishment. But there'll be a question hanging out there still: Why in the world did he do that?
