The Orlando Magic are going to speed up their timeline. After a very promising (when healthy) performance last season, the team is starting to make moves to become one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. One thing that the Magic are still missing, however, is a reliable true point guard. This Magic free agency prediction has the team signing a player who could solve all their point guard issues.
Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus listed some of his 2025 NBA free agency predictions, and he has the Magic signing Phoenix Suns’ Tyus Jones.
“Jones is a borderline starter, a low-turnover guard who can shoot three at a high clip…he's super-stable, easy to fit on almost any team and looking for a pay raise after money ran dry last season ...Everything he does well fits the Orlando Magic's needs. What he doesn't, the Magic provides with a big, tough, long physical roster.”
Pincus isn’t wrong. Jones could be a very nice fit in Orlando. Ever since the Desmond Bane trade, it looks like the Magic are looking to revamp their offense, which was one of the worst in the league last season.
Jones would be a great guard to help control the offense. Jones doesn’t need to shoot to be effective and can get Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Desmond Bane involved in the offense without turning the ball over.
None of the Magic’s current starters are super reliable ball-handlers. Jones could easily fill that gap.
Jones’ defense is certainly an issue, but as Pincus mentioned, the Magic can cover up his faults on that end.
