Mikey Williams is making highlights again.
That's what the talented guard was always so good at, and after a winding journey, he's putting up lots of exciting film at Sacramento State.
The problem is that the highlights don't tell the whole story.
There have been basketball accounts on social media drumming up the idea of Williams as a first-round NBA Draft pick.
And, well, no.
The Athletic's Sam Vecenie explained it like this on X:
He turns 22 in June and is shooting 38% from the field and 25% from 3 in the Big Sky for a team that has lost seven games in a row and is 1-11 against D1 teams this year.

So no, I don’t think he’s a future first rounder lol. Https://t.co/tJtJFssYvH

Williams was once one of the most-hyped high school basketball players ever, a viral social media sensation at every turn.
But his game no longer matches the hype.
Williams originally committed to Memphis out of high school, but he never played for the Tigers. Gun charges led to him entering the transfer portal. He eventually pled guilty to one misdemeanor.
The 6-foot-3 Williams ended up at UCF, and in 2024-25, he averaged 5.1 points per game.
Williams transferred after last season and came to Sacramento State, which is led by Mike Bibby as head coach and general manager Shaquille O'Neal.
With the caveat of it being an early call, Williams was once ranked the No. 1 player in his class when he was in eighth grade.
He had more than three million followers on Instagram before he was a junior in high school.
He's putting up numbers this season, too, in the counting stats -- 17.8 points and 4.7 assists per game.
But it's not going to translate to the NBA.
