The home of Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra was engulfed in flames early Thursday morning.

Spoelstra was away from his home at the time of the fire, arriving at the scene shortly after 5 a.m. ET. The house, located in Miami-Dade County, was shrouded in smoke and ash for more than three hours, although firefighters contained the blaze to Spoelstra’s property.

Spoelstra’s five-bedroom, six-bathroom house caught fire early Thursday morning. The blaze was reported at 4:30 a.m. ET, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Firefighters arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and found two structures awash in flames. Plumes of smoke billowed over parts of the home for more than three hours. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Victoria Byrd told reporters after the fire was contained that firefighters battled “fire as tall as the trees.”

More than 20 units responded to the inferno, with teams working by air and on the ground to contain the blaze. The house was empty at the time of the fire — Spoelstra and the Heat had played the Denver Nuggets on the road Wednesday, with their charter flight landing in Miami shortly after 5 a.m. ET.

Fire officials said the blaze was contained to Spoelstra’s property. No injuries have been reported.
