The NBA Playoffs have been a stage for years where players can make a name for themselves.

We have seen so many iconic moments come out from the sport's biggest stage, including some incredible stat lines and averages.

Today, we are going to look at some record averages for single-season playoff runs by players.

NBA playoff history averages leaders

@extrastats on X recently put out a post showing some of the historic averages from playoff runs by players:

Taking a glance at each category, some of the mind-blowing averages look unbeatable.

Let's break each down (aside from TOPG and PFPG).

Jerry West - PPG

West doesn't actually have the most PPG in a run, Michael Jordan does.

MJ averaged 43.7 PPG, but it was only in three games played, so with a 10-game minimum it doesn't apply here.

West shot 44.2 FG% on 31.9 FGA and also had 12.5 FTM.

This record would be very hard for a player to beat and hold an average that high for over 10 games, but West didn't have the benefit of a three-point line, so it's possible.

Bill Russell - RPG

This might just be one of the hardest records to beat on the list.

Some of the other records are difficult but feasible, but with the difference in rebounding from decades ago compared to now, this record might stand.

Wilt averaged 0.3 more RPG in one postseason, but it was only in five games compared to Russell's 10 games.

We rarely see players in today's game grab 25-30 rebounds in one game, so it would be unlikely to see that happen several times.

Magic Johnson - APG

15.2 APG across 19 games is something else.

Magic is one of the best facilitators of all time, so it's not a shock to see that he holds this record.

Johnson and Stockton hold many of the playoff APG top places.

If a player were to break the record today, it would likely be someone like Nikola Jokic because of how dominant he has been in the past.

John Stockton - SPG

Believe it or not, Stockton is 14th on the list for SPG with no minimum games enforced.

However, most of those players recorded more SPG in a handful of games played and were nowhere close to 10.

Maurice Cheeks did average 4.1 SPG in nine games played one postseason, which is arguably more impressive than Stockton's 3.4 in 11 games.

Cheeks also did it in just 36.7 MPG in that span.

Russell Westbrook had 3.0 SPG as one of the more recent players to have a high SPG average, in 2013.

Dikembe Mutombo - BPG

Mutumbo's 5.8 BPG mark hasn't been touched by a player with over 10 games.

Hakeem Olajuwon averaged 4.9 BPG in 1993 to take second place, 0.9 behind Dikembe.

Recently, Myles Turner averaged 4.0 BPG in the 2020 postseason, but only in four games.

Once Victor Wembanyama makes the playoffs, he could be the one to come close to this record in the next decade.
