The future of Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee remains uncertain.
Though the Bucks have reportedly shut down trade calls in recent weeks, a source with close ties to the franchise's front office told ESPN this month that "the writing is on the wall" for Giannis in Milwaukee.
Over the summer, the Bucks and the New York Knicks engaged in trade talks around Antetokounmpo as the nine-time All-NBA selection expressed interest in a move. Though the Knicks made offers, talks never gained traction and were eventually tabled.
Now, nearly one-third of the way through the 2025/26 season, the 10-15 Bucks appear to be going nowhere fast, and Antetokounmpo -- out multiple weeks with a calf strain -- could close the door on his ambitions of winning a second title in Cream City.
While the Knicks -- seeking their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999 -- are expected to retain interest in Antetokounmpo if he decides to force his way to another team, Shams Charania reported Tuesday that the Knicks have lost their "exclusivity" to negotiate with the Bucks.
This could make it more difficult for the Knicks to acquire Antetokounmpo, as interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and others could turn the Greek Freak's head.
The Knicks sit second in the Eastern Conference with a 16-7 record and are hoping to end a 52-year championship drought this season. Only time will tell if they can convince Giannis to come to the Big Apple and pull off a feat similar to the one pulled off in 2021.
