The need for a center has dominated many teams’ offseasons, and the New York Knicks could soon get in on the action.
Over the past few days, the Knicks’ free agency rumors haven’t amounted to much, considering their core from last season’s Eastern Conference Finals run is still intact. Still, the Knicks have made some solid moves to begin free agency, adding Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele.
Despite those moves to bolster their depth, the Knicks might have some more tricks up their sleeve. One of those next deals to come could be the Knicks going after Phoenix Suns big man Nick Richards.
Richards was dealt to Phoenix midseason from Charlotte and was thrust into the starting center role. While things didn’t quite pan out on a dysfunctional Suns team, Richards could still be a great role player in the right situation.
If he could head to New York and play alongside Karl-Anthony Towns and split some time at center with Mitchell Robinson, it could be the perfect situation for him. With the Knicks' potential interest in making bigger deals, Richards could be a cheap replacement for Robinson if they need to let him go.
Last season, Nick Richards averaged 9.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and one block per game. His ability to man the middle and be a good rebounder and defender is something that any team could use.

With Robinson’s injury issues, Richards could be a perfect backup plan who could still play when Robinson is healthy. The Knicks have already made some good moves, but acquiring Richards could be another step toward winning the East.
