The New York Knicks made the Eastern Conference Final for the first time in 25 years this past season. It would have been easy for them to be content with the results, run nearly the same roster back next season, and try to break through. However, the Knicks could attempt to shake up their roster and land a legend this offseason.
Kevin Durant is likely on the move this offseason after a couple of unsuccessful years with the Phoenix Suns. The Knicks are a team that could be in contention, and a way to make it work could be a four-team deal, via Bleacher Report.
The basis of the deal is the Knicks receiving Durant, while Karl-Anthony Towns would go to the New Orleans Pelicans. The Suns would get a haul, which includes Dejounte Murray, Ives Missi, Kelly Olynyk, four first-round picks, and a first-round pick swap.
The extra team in the deal would be the Washington Wizards, who would receive PJ Tucker and a 2027 first-round pick swap. In total, the Pelicans give up four first-round picks in the deal, while the Knicks only give up one.
Towns had some good moments for the Knicks this season, but there were concerns about his fit with the rest of the lineup, particularly with Jalen Brunson. Durant is seven years older and nearing the end of his career, but he is a better fit systematically and could give the Knicks a better chance if they are in win-now mode.
Dealing Towns and all pick for Durant is a risk, but it could be a franchise-altering deal if it leads to a championship within the next few years.
