ESPN's Shams Charania is reporting that free agent guard Landry Shamet has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the New York Knicks.
Shamet, who had been in a pool of names New York had their eyes on to fill the final roster spot, will play for the Knicks in what will be his eighth NBA season.
The Wichita State product reportedly had other playing options, but wanted to come back to New York after last year's disappointing defeat in the Eastern Conference Finals at the hands of the Indiana Pacers.
Landry Shamet Fills Final Roster Spot for Knicks
SNY's Ian Begley confirmed the signing via his X account.
"Landry Shamet had other options but prioritized continuity in returning to the Knicks, a source said. He wanted to return to a locker room he liked and to help NYK compete for a title. Shamet and Knicks will agree on a one-year deal. Knicks have enough room for rookie vet minimum under the second apron," wrote Begley.
While the Knicks had reported interest in other free agent guards such as Ben Simmons, Russell Westbrook, and Malcolm Brogdon, Shamet was the familiar option and ended up landing the deal.
Shamet was a late addition for New York last season, after dislocating his shoulder in preseason, he rehabbed with the Westchester Knicks before returning to the main roster in December, appearing in 50 games and shooting nearly 40% from three-point range.
The eight-year NBA veteran flashed in the playoffs as well, shooting 46% from three while only appearing in limited action.
It's unclear what type of role Shamet will play for the Knicks in 2025-26, as new head coach Mike Brown will surely use the veteran differently than former coach Tom Thibodeau.
Regardless, the Knicks' roster is set with just three weeks until the start of the preseason.
