The New York Knicks have continued to bolster their bench as they inch closer to opening night.

On Thursday, New York signed a 6-foot-4 sharpshooting guard and former first-round pick who competed with the franchise last year to assist Jalen Brunson.

“Free agent guard Landry Shamet has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the New York Knicks,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday. “Shamet stays with the Knicks for his 8th NBA season.”

Shamet is the definition of an NBA journeyman. Following a solid collegiate career at Wichita State, the 28-year-old veteran started his NBA journey with the Philadelphia 76ers

Shamet failed to last a season alongside Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons in Philadelphia, as the 76ers traded the former first-round pick to the Los Angeles Clippers midway through the year.

Shamet spent 1.5 years in Los Angeles before suiting up for the Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, and Knicks.

As a member of the Knicks in 2024-25, Shamet performed well when Tom Thibodeau called his number. Shamet averaged 5.7 points per game while shooting 46.1% from the field and 39.7% from three-point land.

The Kansas City, Missouri native was the Knicks' most productive contributor during their Game 6 Eastern Conference Finals contests against the Indiana Pacers, as he notched 12 points in New York’s 125-108 loss.

Needless to say, the Knicks were wise to add Shamet to their roster before the start of training camp.
