In light of New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns’ slow start to the season, some have entertained the idea of a trade in exchange for Dallas Mavericks’ star Anthony Davis, but not everyone sees that as a likely scenario.
Towns is off to one of his worst starts to a season in his career, averaging 22.6 points and 12.4 rebounds per game while shooting just 33.7 percent from 3-point range.
With the Knicks having title aspirations this year, his name has now come up in trade talks, more specifically involving Davis. However, SNY’s Ian Begley doesn’t see a scenario where the Knicks end up trading for Davis, given the current state of the team.
“I don't see it happening given the construction of the team and I'm not sure even with the finances, if the Knicks have what it takes to match salary there, in terms of where they are in the apron situation,” Begley said.
“It's interesting, though, because when Anthony Davis was with the Pelicans, and they were figuring out their future - where they were going to go, were they going to go to the Lakers, were they going to go elsewhere, I was told that the Knicks were on Anthony Davis' radar as a place where he was interested in going.”
Davis, a 10-time All-Star, was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic last season. When on the court, Davis is one of the best players in the NBA, but that’s the exact issue. Since being traded to Dallas last February, Davis has appeared in just 14 games combined over the course of last year and this year.
Davis' injury concerns should certainly give the Knicks pause if they decide to pursue Davis down the line.
