The New York Knicks have been struggling lately, causing trade speculation around the team to grow louder.

One player who has been mentioned in trade rumors is center Karl-Anthony Towns, who has clashed with head coach Mike Brown about his role with the team this season.

But Knicks reporter Ian Begley said Thursday that New York has not had internal discussions about trading Towns.

"The Knicks are not having conversations on trading Karl-Anthony Towns," Begley said. "As of Monday, it was not happening."

New York has lost nine of its past 12 games and has just three wins since the calendar flipped to 2026. The Knicks got back in the win column Wednesday with a 120-66 win against the Brooklyn Nets.

Begley believes the Knicks may consider drastic trades if the team has another rough stretch before the Feb. 5 trade deadline.

"If you see another 2-9 stretch or something like that ahead of the trade deadline, I think that's when you have to consider that, 'Hey, we need to shake something up here,'" he said.

Towns is averaging 20.8 points, 11.5 rebounds and shooting 46.9% from the field this season. He is in his second season in New York after being acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves before last season.

Towns' max contract is fully guaranteed through the 2027-28 season, making him a difficult player to trade. But the Begley thinks Knicks are intent on keeping him for now.

"I don't think they're there yet," he said. "They're not out there shopping Karl-Anthony Towns."

The Knicks (26-18) return to action Saturday night against the Philadelphia 76ers.
