The New York Knicks aren’t happy with how their season ended. That was clear when they fired Tom Thibodeau. It is even clearer with a recent Knicks rumor that the team has engaged in trade talks for two of its key players.
NBA insider, Frank Isola, reported that “Mikal Bridges’ name has surfaced in trade discussions, according to several team executives. Mitchell Robinson is another player being discussed.”
This is a big deal. The Knicks were just a few wins away from reaching the NBA Finals last year. Now they might be making some major changes.
Whether this is a good idea or not remains to be seen. That being said, with the Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers, and Milwaukee Bucks missing stars with major injuries next season, shaking things up in a huge way might not be the best idea.
The Knicks could run it back, make a few trades or signings to bolster their roster, and make the NBA Finals.
This doesn’t seem to be the philosophy of the Knicks front office.
Maybe they are just listening to offers. Maybe they are actively shopping some of their best players. Either way, if the Knicks decide to change things in a big way, it could totally backfire.
The Eastern Conference is wide open for next season. As presently constructed, the Knicks are probably one of the favorites to win the East.

So maybe trading Bridges or Robinson isn’t the best idea. Instead, the Knicks should be focused on making smaller trades to support their core rather than getting rid of them.
