The New York Knicks handed the Chicago Bulls their first loss of the season on Sunday, 128-116, snapping their three-game losing streak.
After the game, head coach Mike Brown spoke to the press about his minutes distribution that night, being asked directly about free agent addition Guerschon Yabusele's reduced workload after only two minutes on the floor.
"It's me. I could probably play 10 but it's gonna be more 9.5 so somebody's gonna have the 0.5…Give us whatever he can give us…Nothing he did," Brown said.
Guerschon Yabusele's reduced Knicks role
"And so it was my call, but Guerschon has played well. He’s got to keep himself ready because he’s going to continue to get minutes. I just have to try to find more if I can. But there’s not going to be a lot more for when you start talking nine, ten guys. There’s not going to be a ton for that ninth or tenth guy."
Over the Knicks' last two games, both against the Bulls, Yabusele only played three and two minutes, respectively.
It's possible Brown felt the Summer signee wasn't a good matchup against this Bulls team. New York's head coach has been fluid with his lineups early on in the year.
In five games this season, the former Philadelphia 76er has been relatively quiet. He's averaging 9.4 minutes per game, with 1.6 points, three rebounds, and 1.2 assists.
Yabusele is clearly still adjusting to his new role with a new team, and the Knicks as a whole are still gelling and figuring out Brown's new system.
Hopefully, as the season progresses, he'll carve out a role and consistent minutes in New York and be the impactful addition he was projected to be over the summer.
