The New York Knicks are 6-3 to begin this season, and have a wide-open Eastern Conference they could come out on top of.

Through their first six games, the team has played well, with some minor concerns here and there.

Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns have picked up the pace after a slowish start to the season and are on a four-game winning streak.

However, if the Knicks truly want to capitalize on a weak Eastern Conference, they should be looking to solve one of the team’s biggest problems.

After Malcolm Brogdon surprisingly retired after a disappointing preseason, Fansided’s Dan Favale calls out the Knicks and what they need to do when all players become available for trade.

“Although the NBA trade deadline seems like forever away, the New York Knicks’ biggest need they must address by Feb. 5 is already crystal clear: They need to give Jalen Brunson backup—a real, actual backup,” Favale said Sunday.

“Deuce McBride and Jordan Clarkson are eating up the lion’s share of the second-string backcourt minutes. Neither is what you’d call a floor general.”

Favale and the rest of the general public can see the Knicks desperately need creation outside of Brunson.

That is where Ayo Dosunmu of the Chicago Bulls comes in, who is on a team-friendly, 3-year $21 million contract.

Dosunmu’s minutes will decrease once Coby White comes back, and the team already has Josh Giddey and Tre Jones as their primary playmakers.

Favale lists Dosunmu as a potential target alongside Cam Spencer and Collin Gillespie, both of whom are not at the caliber of Dosunmu.

Dosunmu is in his fifth year with the Bulls and was born and raised in Chicago as well.

He has been a stellar young piece for the team after being drafted in the second round by Chicago in the 2021 NBA draft.

He has averaged 3.3 assists per game in his career, and would drastically help the team when Brunson isn’t on the floor.

If Head Coach Mike Brown and the rest of the front office are smart, they will at least show interest in Dosunmu sometime this season.
