With rumors swirling that LeBron James could be traded or bought out this offseason, the Knicks may look to acquire the veteran superstar.

James is entering his 23rd season in the NBA and will almost certainly want to contend for a championship during what could be his final run.

The Knicks, fresh off their first Eastern Conference finals appearance since 2000, could be a viable landing spot for the four-time MVP. With a championship-caliber roster and former Cavaliers head coach Mike Brown now at the helm, a move to New York isn’t unrealistic for James.

Dan Favale of Bleacher Report recently put together a mock trade that would send James to the Knicks, with the Lakers acquiring a star big man to pair with Luka Doncic.

Here's Favale's proposed trade:

Knicks receive: LeBron James

Lakers receive: Karl-Anthony Towns

While the Knicks would likely need to find a cost-effective big man on the open market after moving Towns, they still have Mitchell Robinson and Guerschon Yabusele. Adding James would give New York another elite playmaker to pair with Jalen Brunson in their pursuit of a championship. Moreover, acquiring James’ expiring contract would provide more financial flexibility after the 2025-26 campaign.

For the Lakers, the Western Conference remains crowded with contenders. While one last title run with James isn’t necessarily out of the question, the West is loaded with talent, and another banner seems unlikely next season.

If James and the Lakers decide to split up, New York could be a possible destination for the 40-year-old.
