Peter Patton isn’t the only new coaching addition the New York Knicks have completed this week.
On Thursday, New York agreed to hire a 39-year-old former Portland Trail Blazers coach to help make life easier for Mike Brown in Year 1.
“The New York Knicks added Mark Tyndale as an assistant coach for player development,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported on X/Twitter Thursday.
“Tyndale was previously an assistant coach with the Blazers under Chauncey Billups. Prior, Tyndale was a player development coach with the (Toronto) Raptors under Nick Nurse.”
As a player, Tyndale enjoyed a lengthy professional career after graduating from Temple in 2008.
The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native started in the NBA G-League (formerly known as the D-League) but left the U.S. in 2010 to try his hand at competitive overseas basketball (he played with Telekom Baskets Bonn, BC Dnipro, and the Sundsvall Dragons for a brief period).

Although Tyndale returned to the States in 2012 following his quick detour, he wound up spending more time overseas toward the end of his journey.
Tyndale officially retired in 2018 and began coaching a year later. The former second-team All-Atlantic 10 member was a player development coach in Toronto for five seasons and an assistant in Portland for two.
With the Knicks possessing a great deal of talent at every position, Tyndale should be ecstatic to begin working with the franchise.
