The New York Knicks don’t have enough room for everyone they’ve signed to make the roster, and it could result in the departure of some of their younger pieces.
The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III has pointed out that the Knicks are most likely going to keep at least two of Landry Shamet, Malcolm Brogdon, and Garrison Mathews after training camp. As such, the Knicks will need to make a trade if they wish to do so.
“New York is leaning toward keeping two of the aforementioned vets, with Shamet and Brogdon leading the way,” Edwards III said. “In order to keep two veterans, though, the Knicks must make a trade.”
In particular, Edwards III mentions Pacome Dadiet as a possible trade candidate in this scenario. Dadiet was drafted in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft, and appeared in 18 games for the Knicks as a rookie, averaging 1.7 points and 1.0 rebounds per game in just 6.2 minutes of action.
“For what it’s worth, I’ve also heard Dadiet has had a good summer behind the scenes and has made it harder for New York to potentially trade him,” Edwards III said. “If New York were going to move on from one of its youngsters, Dadiet would be the most likely to get a worthwhile return (I can’t imagine it would be for more than a second-round pick or two.”
Nonetheless, the Knicks enter this season as one of the deepest teams in the NBA, and have a real chance to come out of the Eastern Conference after advancing to the conference finals last season.
