From experienced veterans to young, unproven players, the New York Knicks have made their share of roster cuts after the preseason.

A 6-foot-6 former Golden State Warriors shooting guard was one of the Knicks’ training camp contributors who didn’t do enough to convince the franchise to include him on its 15-man opening night roster.

“The New York Knicks Waive Donovan Williams,” the franchise's PR X/Twitter account made public last Thursday.

Williams, like Romeo Langford and Ibrahima Diallo, proved to be a prime sign-and-waive candidate for the Knicks, as his tenure in New York was only an hour long.

Before briefly joining the Knicks, Williams enjoyed stints with the Long Island Nets (Brooklyn Nets’ G-League affiliate), Atlanta Hawks, Warriors, Scarborough Shooting Stars, Westchester Knicks (New York’s G-League affiliate), and Shanghai Sharks (CBA).

As a member of the Warriors, Williams didn’t see any action with the franchise ahead of his inevitable waiving. However, the UNLV product later signed with the Santa Cruz Warriors and averaged 20.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game during the 2023-24 G-League season.

Williams contributed 20.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists with the Knicks’ developmental squad last year, showing he can regularly produce at the G-League level.

With New York retaining Williams’ G-League rights, it would be realistic to witness the 24-year-old run it back with Westchester.
