Mitchell Robinson has seen the last couple of seasons of his career interrupted by various injuries, and now they could have a lasting impact on his availability for next season.
During the 2024 playoffs, Robinson suffered an ankle injury against the Philadelphia 76ers. The injury was bad enough to the point that surgery was required to repair the damage that offseason. As a result, Robinson didn’t appear in a game for the Knicks until very late in the 2024-25 season. Robinson played in just 17 games last season, averaging 5.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. However, Robinson did appear in all 18 of the Knicks’ playoff games last season.
Robinson unsure on status of back-to-backs
Now, heading into the 2025-26 season, Robinson’s status is unknown. On Thursday, Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News reported that Robinson isn’t sure if he’ll be playing in back-to-backs this season, opting to leave that decision up to the team’s medical staff.
Nonetheless, Robinson will look to stay healthier this season as the Knicks enter as one of the favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference. Robinson hasn’t appeared in more than 59 games in a season since 2021-22 — when he appeared in 72 games — and hasn’t appeared in more than 31 games since 2022-23. If Robinson can remain at least relatively healthy, he figures to once again be one of the Knicks’ most impactful players with his ability to protect the rim, and grab offensive rebounds.
